The Education Program prepares undergraduate and graduate students to become thoughtful, caring, and effective schoolteachers in the elementary and secondary level.
At the graduate level, we offer the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program for beginning teachers and the Teacher Leadership Program for more experienced teachers.
The Master of Arts in Teaching program provides graduates with the initial license to teach in Massachusetts, with reciprocity with all other states and the District of Columbia. Candidates for the MAT degree are expected to satisfy all requirements for the initial teaching license in their field, including the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL).
The Brandeis Teacher Leadership Program recognizes that the most important change agents in education are classroom teachers. Teachers have the ability to change the lives of their students daily, and this influence extends far beyond classrooms, schools, and communities. This hybrid program brings together cohorts of like-minded, gifted teachers to mold the essential skills to becoming an effective Teacher Leader.
The Education Program as a whole is small and personalized. We offer a program that values above all else the principles of social justice; an outstanding faculty; a diverse, engaged, and questioning student body; academic rigor; and emphasis on inquiry providing intellectual power and excitement that our students carry into their own classrooms. We also have an induction program that provides continued support to first year teachers.
